We’ve all been there, the first week of quarantine. Suddenly you find yourself throwing random s**t into your grocery cart that you have never eaten before. The stay at home order, not only made you purchase mass amounts of toilet paper, but suddenly your whole life seems like it’s in survival mode. You have made three different types of banana bread and don’t even try to pretend you have put on a real pair of pants without elastic.
Week two was a bit better, the scale wouldn’t agree, but you have calmed down with excess eating, your morning routine is becoming a bit more fluent, and you are starting to get used to the whole work from home concept.
But what now? You’re tired of binge watching Netflix, your roots are starting to grow out and let’s not even talk about your eyebrows. All those times you pretended you were busy and ditched a night out for the couch… now seems like sin.
Okay, now do something for me. Close your eyes and imagine your life two years ago. Someone comes up to you and explains to you that in one point in your life, everything would be cancelled. For two months you did not have to drive into work, restaurants would be closed and you had to stay at home so that you could get your life in line and spend time with the people you love.
Now think of how you would imagine that time? – Do you see yourself shoveling trader joes cookies down your throat as your watch your 8th episode of Scandal? Or do you imagine yourself being productive, and taking this once in a lifetime opportunity to plan out the future you want.
We are overlooking the fact that this quarantine is giving us an opportunity – to find ourselves and to grow in aspects of our life that we never had time for. We have the opportunity to take advantage of this time, to learn to style your hair differently or to research and learn about the regions of wine you have been drinking.
Right now is the perfect time in life to create a sense of balance.
I’m not going to preach to you to start journaling if you have no desire to do so. But find something that you have been wanting to do and set your mind to it. It can be as small as five minute meditation or it can be starting a damn freaking company.
Pick something and practice it everyday // so that at end of this quarantine, you’re not looking in the mirror and regretting the missed opportunity to make yourself better.
